National Health Mission (NHM) Meghalaya is not alarmed by the rising number of Covid-19 cases but has asked the public to be responsible enough in their behaviour.
There have been four Covid-related deaths in the past two days and hundreds of new infections, including 96 today.
Mission Director Ram Kumar said that the authorities are aware of the situation, which is mirroring a national trend. The type of Covid variant spreading through Meghalaya is not a new one, he added.
However, he cautioned citizens to be up to date with their Covid vaccine and to follow protocols, such as wearing facemasks in public and avoiding large gatherings.
“We are keeping tabs on a daily basis but we’re not alarmed as such. But I request everyone to get themselves vaccinated with the third dose,” Kumar said.
There is no plan at all to reintroduce severe restrictions or a lockdown as people have adapted to new norms and have learned to live with the virus, he added.
