Tura, Jun 30: Three NGOs from the Dalu area under West Garo Hills have sought the immediate closure of the Killapara export point over allegations of illegal movement of boulder trucks to Bangladesh.
In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner today, the GSU, FKJGP and AYWO requested that the port be closed immediately over worries of spread of Covid-19.
“The people of Dalu have raised this matter multiple times on why export is currently being allowed despite the pandemic spread? Moreover, the persons in the trucks ferrying boulders are not following Covid-19 protocols,” said the NGOs.
Further, they added that there are no medical staff to check the persons on their exit or reentry.
“When inter-state movement of vehicles is strictly prohibited, on what basis are they entering the State nationally or internationally? These are the questions we the people of Dalu need an answer to,” the NGOs added.
The NGOs through their letter urged that the export of boulders be stopped until the time when the pandemic is brought under control.
