Shillong, Sep 10: A conglomerate of NGOs of Raksamgre, Phulbari, and Pedaldoba has reiterated its stand on supporting the proposed bamboo hub industry in the Medhipara area of Garo Hills.
The NGOs comprising the GSU, GSMC, AHAM, AYWO, FKJGP and others met with the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills district today informing him the setting up of the bamboo hub industry is being supported by the public.
“The proposal of a particular area for the said industry is not affecting the residents, and none of the houses will be affected because all the specific area/land belongs to the Giro Hills Autonomous District Council,” the NGOs said in a joint memorandum.
Though the land belongs to the district council, “monkey business” has flourished through encroachment, the NGOs said, “Setting up the industry in these areas will protect against illicit activities and help protect against illicit activities and help protect immigrants/influx as well as boundary disputes in the future.”
The organisations said the will play a vital role in economic growth by creating jobs and it will help the area and national development by contributing significantly to GDP, driving innovation and technological advancement, and improving living standards by transforming raw materials into valuable goods.
