Sanggra Marak, the president of the United A’chik Youth Federation (UAYF), today highlighted the various issues faced by people of the state due to the continued lockdowns for the past one and half years while asking the state to reach out to its people.
“People are facing poverty and starvation as they have not been able to go for their daily wages. The government should ensure they are taken care of and provide relief like dal, rice and mustard oil as these are basic amenities,” felt Marak.
He added that the rural population in South West Khasi Hills was the worst hit.
“Schools and colleges are conducting online classes but there are too many students that don’t have their own smartphones. They are unable to attend their online classes. Even if they do have smartphones, there is no network coverage and this is happening only due to the gross negligence of the authorities concerned,” he added.
Marak appealed to the state to look into the issues faced by the people and ensure they are able to live in a dignified manner.
