Speaking to Highland Post, SK Choudhury President of the organization said that after they obtained the Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills district permission, the BBMF started distribution yesterday in Rilbong, Bishnupur, Kench’s Trace, Laban Last Stop, Umpling, Polo, Forest Colony, Bivar Road Oakland and Jail Road.
“We were able to cover about 200 households in these two days and we distributed essential commodities like rice, dal, etc, about 10 kg to each household who have been badly affected by the pandemic,” Choudhury said.
The funds to buy the essentials were contributed by the members of the organization.
The need for help is a very real one, Choudhury added, with some families telling BBMF that they had not eaten for two or three days. The foundation has also been working with headmen of the various neighbourhoods to zero in on those families that need immediate help.
“We have also started online classes on particular days through links created by teachers who are members of our organization. We have engaged experts, like doctors and other resource persons, for every session who impart education to the students on protection against Covid-19 and how to deal with mental stress and anxiety in this situation,” he informed.
