The A’chik Youth Movement for Better Society (AYMBS) has written to the Deputy Commissioner of West Garo Hills alleging sub-standard work in the ongoing repairs of the AMPT Road between Phulbari and Chibinang.
In its complaint, the NGO said that the work of the said chainage (near Phulbari Market), the seal coating of the road has already been completed two days ago but due to poor quality of construction and seal coating of the road it started coming off immediately.
“There is no blinder course or base course and they did not dismantle the old road before constructing the new one. They just laid the seal coating on the old road after completing it by laying a seal coat. The surface coat can be peeled off with bare hands,” said AYMBS president, Peterjob A Sangma.
Sangma further alleged that the lowest quality of bitumen seems to have been used in the repair while asking for an investigation into the matter and for action to be taken against the contractor.
“The people of the said areas are worried as this was the same case that happened in the year 2016. Then, just after completion of one month, the road started getting dismantled as the quality was not upto the mark,” added Sangma while asking for the DC’s intervention into the matter to ensure that similar things are not repeated.
