Deputy Commissioner of North Garo Hills, RP Marak through an order issued today made it clear that temporary car passes issued by the administration for Inter-district movement was only meant for specific purposes.
Further the DC asked all contractors and government departments that were bringing in labour from outside the state, to do so only with prior permission and through the designated check points in Bajengdoba and Dainadubi.
“The car pass issued for cases of medical emergency, death in the family/relative and some other emergency cases is valid only for a specified date and purpose,” the order stated with the administration asking for old, expired orders to not be pasted on cars.
He further warned of action against such misuse.
The latest order comes amidst a surge in nationwide case of the pandemic with Meghalaya reporting record number of cases on a daily basis.
Further in a separate order, the DC informed that in view of surging cases of Covid-19 everywhere, bringing of labourers from outside the state has been restricted.
The order comes in the wake of some people including Contractors and Government departments bringing labourers from Assam and other states to the district without informing the medical department, police or the administration.
Further the order asked that if labourers are to be brought from outside the state for on-going government works and other urgent individual works, prior permission should be obtained from the Deputy Commissioner and entry should be invariably made via entry points at Berubari and Dainadubi for medical screening.
