The leaking of an interim report from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) to the press around the alleged bungling of a Rs 149 crore contract was completely misleading, Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said today.
Recently a local newspaper presented the report as absolute fact, claiming that the CAG had designated the contract for the Saubhagya electricity scheme as a scam.
However, Sangma said that the CAG had simply been seeking clarifications from the department concerned.
Presenting these communications as absolute fact gave “a wrong picture of things, where a clarification is being sought for and, based on it, one reaches a conclusion that is not at all fair,” the CM said. “This is a communication between two departments. It is not appropriate that it should be out in the press.”
The CAG’s official report first has to be tabled in the Assembly before it becomes a public document, he added.
