Shillong, Sep 16: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the newly constructed State Guest House–Taraghar here today.
The government said the state guest house will significantly reduce costs by eliminating the need to rent venues for official programs, training sessions, and reviews, contributing to efficient cost cutting and better governance.
Built at Rs 24.91 crores the guest house will be operated and maintained by Polo Towers. Tagged a “luxurious abode” the government said it perfectly suits to host top dignitaries. Its proximity to the iconic Wards Lake enhances its appeal, making it a highly sought-after destination.
Sangma in his address emphasised the government’s commitment to delivering development through teamwork, consistency, and a positive approach. He stressed that Meghalaya is now the second fastest growing economy in India, consistently achieving a 10 per cent growth.
He stressed on the government’s role in investing highly on infrastructure and focus towards holistic and inclusive development.
He also spoke on investments of around Rs.40 crore around the vicinity of Wards Lake to enhance roads, footpaths, and public spaces.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong highlighted the state’s long-standing need for a dedicated guest house, noting that it took 25 years, from 2000 to 2025, to finally have one.
