The Voice of the People Party (VPP) contested just 18 seats in the Assembly election this year but are hoping to bring real change to Meghalaya, that is if the voters entrusted their vote to the new party.
The party ran two experienced legislators – the incumbent North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum and the ex-Nongkrem representative Ardent M Basaiawmoit. The others are a mix of academics, activists and youth who are trying to shake things up in Khasi-Jaintia Hills (the party did not field any candidate in Garo Hills).
Nongrum today said he has no uncertainty as he has done his duty as an MLA during the preceding five-year term.
“I believe that with the entrance of the VPP, it will bring the real change desired by all the people in the state and to see a new government,” he said. “I also believe that the people who yearn for change and who have lived in regret for the last 50 years will give the VPP a mandate in all the 18 seats and never regret it.”
