Shillong, Apr 4: In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion in the city, a link road located behind the N.E.F.A. Secretariat in the Cantonment area was inaugurated today.
Cabinet Minister Sanbor Shullai inaugurated the pivotal public works department project that spans approximately 0.185 km built at an estimated cost of Rs. 3.36 crore.
The link road is expected to considerably improve the flow of traffic, particularly for commuters exiting Shillong or those en route to areas like Upper Shillong and Garikhana.
With this link road in place, drivers will now have the option to bypass the frequently congested Anjali Petrol Pump point.
“This link road will ease 10-20 per cent of the traffic congestion. There was a lot of minds put together for this project and I am grateful that we were able to approach the Arunachal Pradesh government, since this land belongs to them. Today we are finally able to celebrate this new link which I hope will ease the burden of commuters,” Shullai said.
The link road is one of the projects to upgrade the infrastructure and road networks in and around Shillong.
