Meghalaya recorded 613 new cases of Covid-19 today, the lowest figure since May 16, while seven Covid-related fatalities were also reported, which was the lowest since May 10. There were also 890 recoveries from the coronavirus in the state today.
With more recoveries than new infections, the recovery rate went up to 75.93 percent. The rolling average of new infections (on a seven-day basis) also improved for the fourth day running; it now stands at 795.71, a fall of 72.86 compared to yesterday.
Five fatalities were added to East Khasi Hills’ figures today, with one each in West Jaintia Hills and Ri-Bhoi. Five had Covid-19 pneumonia listed as a cause of death.
The deceased were identified as Kwintina Nongkhlaw (76) of Upper Shillong, Battilin Kharkamni (43) of Mawlai Mawdatbaki, Reggae Kharhujon (34) of Risa Colony, Kenji M Marak (67) of Betasing, Bhanwar Singh (72) of Laitumkhrah, Plistina Mawlong (78) of Bishnupur and Biola Majaw (46) of Umsning.
East Khasi Hills accounted for 320 of today’s reported infections, including one member of the armed forces/paramilitaries, four health workers, 20 in Bishnupur, 11 in Jaiaw, 13 in Laitumkhrah, 17 in Malki, 42 in Mawlai, 11 in Mawmluh, 11 in Nongrah, 10 in Sohra and 180 in various other neighbourhood clusters and categories.
Ri-Bhoi reported 87 new cases (including 10 armed forces/paramilitaries, four in District Jail), West Garo Hills 74 (11 in Selsella), North Garo Hills 28 (two police personnel), West Jaintia Hills 23 (six in Laitlyngdoh Amlarem), East Garo Hills 19 (seven health workers, one police), South West Garo Hills 17 (two health workers), West Khasi Hills 17 (one health worker), East Jaintia Hills 12 (three factory workers), South West Khasi Hills 11 (eight in Ranikor) and South Garo Hills five (all screening).
There were also 890 recoveries today – 535 in East Khasi Hills, 205 in Ri-Bhoi, 52 in West Garo Hills, 18 in West Jaintia Hills, 16 in North Garo Hills, 14 in West Khasi Hills, 13 in South West Garo Hills, 13 in East Jaintia Hills, nine in East Garo Hills, nine in South Garo Hills and six in South West Khasi Hills.
There are now 7,741 active Covid-19 cases in the state. East Khasi Hills alone accounts for 3,663 active cases, Ri-Bhoi 1,191, West Garo Hills 676, West Jaintia Hills 646, South West Garo Hills 417, South West Khasi Hills 232, East Jaintia Hills 228, West Khasi Hills 207, North Garo Hills 184, East Garo Hills 155 and South Garo Hills 142.
In all, Meghalaya has had 34,448 Covid-19 cases, of which 7,741 are active, 26,156 have recovered and 551 have died from the virus. The recovery rate has increased to 75.93 percent. The fatality rate has increased to 1.60 percent. The seven-day rolling average for new cases now stands at 795.71.
