Shillong, Sep 3: To address the shortage of trained professionals in Meghalaya’s growing preschool and childcare sector, the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at the College of Community Science, Tura, has launched a certificate course in Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE).
The course was launched on Thursday in response to rapid expansion of preschools and daycare centres across the state and the increasing demand for qualified early childhood educators.
College Dean Jyoti V Vastrad said early childhood education plays a crucial role in laying foundation for a child’s overall development and the new programme could create opportunities for skill development, employment and professional growth in preschools, schools, daycare centres, Anganwadi programmes, NGOs and other childcare settings.
Head of Department Kh Ringsuachong Aimol said the programme is designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and actual preschool practice.
Participants will receive theoretical instruction and hands-on training through the department’s Laboratory Nursery School where they will engage with age-appropriate teaching and learning activities, classroom management, child observation, play-based learning, health and nutrition and child assessment.
