A resident of Tura has complained that the repaired RC Road in the West Garo Hills town is in a deplorable condition despite having been sanctioned lakhs of rupees to construct.
The resident, who sought to remain anonymous, said that “shoddy work” executed by the concerned contractor has meant that the road, which was only recently constructed, has turned into a muddy mess that is unmotorable for vehicles and unnavigable for pedestrians. The road is within the constituency of North Tura, which is held by the Speaker of the State Assembly.
The complainant said that around Rs 9 lakh has been sanctioned twice through the Chief Minister Special Development Fund (CMSDF) for the construction of this locality road but the poor quality on the ground means that residents believe “that the work was not executed with due diligence and sincerity.”
Only some portion of the stretch has been laid with concrete and the remaining stretch was laid with earth which is certain to create problems when monsoon kicks off.
