Shillong, Mar 14: Residents of Jongksha and Thynroit recently received vital health services as AROH Foundation, in partnership with Mission Nethralaya Eye Care, conducted a series of comprehensive eye screening camps.
The initiative, held on February 26 and March 11, specifically targeted rural communities where access to specialized medical facilities remains a significant challenge.
The camps were organiSed under the HRDP Mawkynrew rural development project, an initiative implemented by AROH Foundation and supported by HDFC Bank’s CSR platform, HDFC Parivartan.
Over the two-day period, more than 250 individuals underwent thorough examinations led by a team of experienced doctors and optometrists.
These screenings included vision testing and general health assessments to identify common ocular issues.
To ensure immediate relief, the program provided free spectacles and medicines to those diagnosed with refractive errors or minor ailments.
For more complex cases, patients requiring surgery or advanced management were referred to Mission Nethralaya for specialised treatment.
Dr. S. P. Saikia and the medical team emphasized that these camps are part of a broader commitment to preventing avoidable blindness in underserved regions.
Organizers noted that bringing quality care directly to the villages removes the barriers of distance and cost, promoting better long-term eye health for the community.
