On the occasion of the World Oral Health Day, an oral awareness programme was organised at NEIGRIHMS here by the Department of Dentistry.
The celebration was started with a radio talk on oral health awareness by All India Radio on March 20 by Dr. Nathaniel Kharumnuid.
Today the awareness run for a distance of 2.5 kilometres was held and participated by MBBS and nursing students. The run was flagged off by NEIGRIHMS director Prof. Nalin Mehta. The winners in both male and female category were awarded with certificates and medals.
This was followed by an awareness programme in the OPD foyer area in NEIGRIHMS.
Prof. Mehta, NEIGRIHMS dean Prof. Asima Bhattacharya, medical superintendent Prof. C Daniala, head of dentistry department Prof. S Vijay Singh and assistant professor Dr. Lomtu graced the occasion.
Prof. Mehta emphasised the importance of oral health and also the role of oral health in other systemic diseases. He also mentioned the ill effect of tobacco on oral cancer.
He also said that consumption of tobacco is not only harmful for health but also has deleterious effects on the surrounding environment.
