The Department of Surgical Oncology and Department of Medical Surgical Nursing, College of Nursing, at NEIGRIHMS organised a poster making competition on the theme ‘Be Aware and Be Safe’ in observance of World Lung Cancer Day today at the institute.
This event was supported by Northeast India Association of Surgical Oncology (NASO) with around 100 BSc and MSc students (Medical Surgical Nursing Dept) actively participating in the competition.
Prof Dr C Daniala, Medical Superintendent of NEIGRIHMS and one of the judges, called the posters informative and captivating. Dr Caleb Harris, Associate Professor in the Department of Surgical Oncology and Prof Nochovono Tase, Principal of the College of Nursing were the other judges.
Dr Harris said that more than 70 per cent of the cancers in Meghalaya are related to tobacco, with 47 per cent of the adult population in Meghalaya using tobacco in comparison to the national average of 28.6 per cent.
