Shillong, Aug 7: The 15th Indian Organ Donation Day was celebrated in NEIGRIHMS with various activities to spread awareness about the advantages of organ donation amongst the students and staff of the Institute.
The celebrations included a detailed presentation and discussion on kidney transplant by Dr. Cornerstone Wann and team during the Clinical Grand Rounds on August 2, followed by a poster competition under the theme, ‘Organ Donation’ and a mini marathon.
During the closing ceremony held on August 5, prizes were distributed to winners of the competitions. NEIGRIHMS Director Prof (Dr.) Nalin Mehta informed that NEIGRIHMS had initiated the process of starting cornea and kidney transplant for the benefit of the patients from the region.
It is noteworthy that NEIGRIHMS is recognized as State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) for Meghalaya with Dr. R Hajong, Professor Department of General Surgery as nodal officer.
