North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla represented the university in the ‘THE Innovation & Impact Summit 2024’, held at New Delhi from December 10 to 12.
At the summit, Shukla highlighted the transformative role of higher education in fostering regional development and also presented initiatives led by NEHU to drive sustainable engagement with local communities in India’s northeast.
During his address, Shukla detailed NEHU’s efforts to bridge higher education with local development, emphasizing sustainable partnerships that leverage academic resources for societal benefits.
Shukla also held a productive meeting with Colin Riordan, Secretary-General of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).
During the discussion, he emphasised that as an ACU member, NEHU is committed to expanding global collaborations, adopting innovative educational practices, and addressing global challenges through localised solutions.
Additionally, Shukla highlighted the contributions of Dr. Skill, a Gujarat-based startup focused on equipping youth with specialised skills for global career opportunities.
He emphasised its pivotal role in fostering sustainable, industry-ready career pathways, particularly in European markets, while preparing students to tackle global challenges effectively.
The meeting included discussions about a proposed Commonwealth Universities workshop on sustainability and skill development, to be hosted by IIS Meghalaya.
Shukla also interacted with Noboru Noguchi, Dean of the Research Faculty of Agriculture at Hokkaido University, and Dr. Tanvir Mahmoud Hussein, PMP, Associate Professor of Finance at Gulf University.
Both expressed their interest in collaborating with NEHU, a development that promises significant benefits for the North-East region of India.
