Shillong, Nov 8: A two-day national seminar on ‘Craft, Culture, and Commerce of Cinema in North East India’ is scheduled to be held at the Golden Jubilee Auditorium, North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) on November 10 and 11.
The seminar aims for a critical exploration of the multifaceted role of cinema as an artistic practice, a socio-cultural force, and an economic enterprise. The primary objective of the seminar is to foster dialogue among filmmakers, academicians, cultural practitioners, policymakers and students to envision pathways for the growth and recognition of the cinema of North East India on both national and global platforms.
Organised by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC), NEHU, in association with the North Eastern Council (NEC), the seminar will feature more than three dozen selected presentations.
Seminar convener, Prof. Manash P. Goswami informed that there would be six technical sessions over two days, along with three plenary sessions and two panel discussions with a focus on the contribution of cinema to identity formation, cultural representation and the development of a sustainable regional film economy.
