A student at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) from Assam was allegedly drugged, raped and dumped in a forest by a taxi driver in Shillong in January this year, media in the neighbouring state have reported.
The victim was on her way to NEHU from Guwahati. The incident was brought to light by activist Megha Kashyap over the weekend.
Kashyap said that her friend had been “retraumatised” by “the system” and police, who, she said, failed to help the victim.
The tweets were directed at Meghalaya Police and Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and were spotted by East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh, who offered to follow-up on the case.
One suspect, a taxi driver, has been arrested in connection with the case, Lyngdoh later informed. The chargesheet process will be completed by Tuesday, she added.
