A fourth semester student at North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) has written to Governor Satya Pal Malik and Union Minister of Education Ramesh Pokhriyal on the supposed disappearance of Vice-Chancellor Prof SK Srivastava.
In the letter, Constantine Dohtdong said that Srivastava has not been seen on campus since April 18 and his absence has posed problems for staff and students when it comes to issues regarding examinations and hostel regulations.
“It is very unfortunate that Srivastava has abdicated his responsibility of leading the students and the university in this hour of acute suffering, grief and loss,” Dohtdong, an English student, wrote. “Not only has he remained absent during this wave of deadly Covid-19, but he has committed a grave act of irresponsibility by leaving the students, researchers and community without any action plan of support, proving beyond doubt that he only serves his own interests.”
