Shillong, Sep 12: The School of Technology (SoT), North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong concluded its two-week-long Student Induction Programme (SIP) 2025.
The programme, mandated by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, and aligned with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, was organized to welcome newly admitted students of B.Tech, B.Arch, and M.Tech across SoT departments, including Electronics & Communication Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Information Technology, Architecture, and Nanotechnology.
The SIP aimed to familiarise students with the university environment, instil confidence, and provide essential exposure to both academic and social life at NEHU. Over the two weeks, students engaged in 78 contact hours of activities spanning academics, wellness, creativity, and personal development.
The programme covered nine AICTE-prescribed modules, including Universal Human Values (UHV-I), Physical Health and Activities, Department Familiarization, Innovation, Proficiency Modules, Literature, Creative Practices, and Extra-curricular Activities. Highlights of the programme included sessions on Yoga & Meditation, Foreign Language Proficiency, Creative Skills Development, Mental Health, Career Counselling and a Cultural Visit to the local areas.
SoT Dean Prof. Md. Iftekhar Hussain in address spoke about the importance of harmonious relationships among peers, seniors, and faculty members, which provide valuable support in academics. He also encouraged students to see diversity as an opportunity to adapt to multicultural environments—an experience that would prepare them well for future professional settings. Stressing the role of strong value systems, he urged students to remain balanced and focused, avoiding distractions in their academic journey.
