North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) organised a programme on World Tourism Day 2022 dubbed ‘Rethinking Tourism’ here yesterday.
It was organised by NEHU’s Department of Tourism and Hotel Management.
Guest of honour Prof AP Pati addressed the audience about the challenges concerning climate change and affordability of tourism by all. The chief guest, Prof Badaplin War, highlighted the importance of preservation and promotion of cultural tourism.
The highlight of the day-long programme was a panel discussion where journalists, hotel industry representatives, academics and a member of the Kongthong Indigenous Agro Tourism Cooperative Society considered a range of issues relevant to the theme of the programme, such as the issues of carrying capacity, women empowerment, lack of IT and on the ground infrastructure, police implementation and the need to focus on niche tourism to make the industry more sustainable.
