Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, I would like to share my views on the current situation prevailing in NEHU akin to that of a military regime.
Most of us are aware that a 15-day deadline was agreed to improve hostel facilities while we are here in the next semester sans proper drinking water, messy toilets, disruptive internet connections and leaking roofs.
It’s a matter of grave concern that the Vice-Chancellor who has already completed one year of his tenure seems to pay no heed to the needs and welfare of the university’s most important stakeholders – the students. Endeavours to meet and discuss issues go in vain with the man eternally out of office for reasons of “official purpose”.
The demand of appointing a Pro-Vice Chancellor also seems to reach nowhere as daily businesses are impacted due to the Vice-Chancellor’s continuous absence from office. The HYC had recently very rightly called for stern action this erring Vice Chancellor who has probably joined this university to exploit the tribal folks and enjoy his status in a state which needs a major rejuvenation for quality and thought provoking leadership persona.
From diverting funds from students to build a state-of-the-art new chamber for himself to hoodwinking Tura campus from time immemorial, the Vice-Chancellor who was appointed unceremoniously, when we had veterans among local lady professors vying for top post, has quite blatantly flouted the convention for which he was appointed for.
Such has been the downfall in NEHU’s academic rankings that it comes as no surprise that the man leading the university has a citation index at a meagre Under 100. It’s high time the patrons of this university come together and have a roundtable with the Vice-Chancellor to apprise him of the issues at hand which has been plaguing the varsity.
