Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh today dropped in on the Directorate of Social Welfare where he inaugurated the women and child care control room and inspected the functioning of the helpline for women and children.
Speaking to reporters, Lyngdoh said that there is a need to integrate the department’s information system with that of the Secretariat, which will enable the monitoring of data and allow for quicker corrective measures.
He also emphasised the need to further strengthen the department, particularly in cases that experience delays.
Lyngdoh expressed happiness that the directorate even has space and accommodation for women and children in urgent cases of distress.
He also lauded the 90 percent success rate of cases that have been resolved in the child helpline cell.
Informing that information from across the districts is also updated round the clock, he said that once this information system is also integrated with the Secretariat, then the information and data will keep on flowing on a daily basis and be in a better position to take steps.
He said that he has also come to review the functioning and funding of the directorate, and certain matters will have to be taken up in the cabinet, including the five ministries dealing with the department in Meghalaya.
