Shillong needs more regular patrols by police, especially in the evenings, East Shillong MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh told Highland Post today.
The senior Congress legislator said that the state capital has one again been gripped by fear following the Golf Links assault and murder case.
“It is a really scary situation that such a heinous crime has occurred in the city and the government is still saying that they are not able to nab the culprit,” she stated. “How is it possible that there was a gang fight and one person was beaten up [so severely that he] lost his life and nobody knows anything about it. Strangely, this is happening in the city and now the public is again under the grip of fear and insecurity, which becomes a serious concern for the community.”
Lyngdoh was also critical of the low number of patrols conducted by police, which, she said, only take place when there are law and order problems and stop at night. With Shillong to benefit from the Smart City scheme, she wondered whether more CCTVs cannot be installed.
