Shillong, Mar 13: Governor Chandrashekhar H Vijayashankar today flagged off a mobile processing unit developed by the Northeast Centre for Technology Application & Reach (NECTAR) in collaboration with CSIR-Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru.
The unit has capacity to process various local food products by reaching at the site of farmers. It aimed at strengthening technological outreach and supporting value addition in the rural regions of Meghalaya.
Director General of NECTAR Dr. Arun Kumar Sarma emphasised the role of innovative initiatives such as the mobile processing unit in empowering communities and enhancing livelihood opportunities in rural and backward areas.
CSIR-CFTRI Director Dr. Giridhar Parvatham stated the importance of scientific collaboration and technology-driven solutions in addressing regional challenges and promoting sustainable growth.
The Governor lauded the initiative taken by NECTAR and appreciated its efforts in bringing technology closer to the grassroots. He remarked that initiatives like the Mobile Processing Unit have the potential to empower local communities, enhance value addition to local produce, and create sustainable livelihood opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs in the region.
He expressed confidence that such technology-driven interventions will play a vital role in accelerating inclusive development in the North Eastern region, supporting farmers, entrepreneurs and local producers through improved technology access.
