Nearly one quarter of all sanctioned posts in the Directorate of Sericulture and Weaving are vacant, a Right to Information (RTI) request has found.
The RTI was filed by social activist Disparsing Rani. There are 885 sanctioned posts in the directorate of which 202 are vacant.
These can be broken down as 15 out of 23 directorate, 103 out of 143 in the sericulture sector and 84 out of 122 in the handloom sector.
Rani felt that the posts remained unfilled because of weaknesses in the government’s service rules.
“It’s a known fact that some influential people hold more than three high level posts in the government while most of the other posts remain vacant. Bribery … is also required for promotion in various government departments,” he claimed at a press conference today.
Rani had recently, through another RTI, found out that there are more than 300 vacant posts at various levels in the Secretariat.
He also informed his next target is the Public Health Engineering Department, from which he is awaiting a response to another RTI.
