Shillong, Mar 5: Nearly 3,000 newly-recruited Meghalaya Police personnel were handed their appointment letters today, which should benefit the overstretched police force.
Delays in the recruitment process have been a long-standing problem with the Meghalaya Police but the Chief Minister today attended the conferment of appointment letters to 2,968 personnel at the 2nd MLP Battalion.
The recruitment drive covered various technical and service-oriented posts, with 1,494 Armed Branch Constables, 720 Unarmed Branch Constables and other specialised roles.
Conrad K Sangma described the occasion as historic and memorable, congratulating the Central Recruitment Board and Home (Police) Department.
The CM emphasised the police role in governance and development, saying, “Without law and order, development cannot survive.”
He urged recruits to balance authority with humility, remain adaptable and committed to learning. Under his government 11,000 appointments have been made with more vacancies to fill, Sangma added.
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, who is also Home Minister, congratulated the recruits, saying they earned their positions through merit and hard work. Also present on the occasion was Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang.
