The Director General of the National Cadet Corps, Lt General Gurbirpal Singh, visited Agartala on March 15-16 to review NCC activities in the North Eastern sector.
Lt Gen Singh was briefed by Major General Bhaskar Kalita, Additional Director General, North Eastern Region, and Group Commanders on the myriad activities undertaken by the cadets of all states in the North East.
He also interacted with Ratan Lal Nath, Minister for Education, and officials of the state government and discussed various issues including creating of dedicated infrastructure for the NCC, border area expansion plan, commencement of NCC as an elective subject in colleges and need for giving an overall impetus to NCC activities in Tripura, which has a wide NCC footprint with approximately 6,000 cadets from 95 schools and colleges from the eight districts, including as many as 2,500 girl cadets.
The General Officer lauded the efforts of the units, cadets and instructors and conferred awards on deserving cadets, instructors and civilian staff of the NCC units in Tripura.
