The 150 Senior Division (boys) and Senior Wing Cadets (girls) of 41 Meghalaya Battalion NCC from Loyola College, Williamnagar and Government College Williamnagar along with 300 students carried out an awareness rally in Williamnagar starting from Loyola College which culminated at the banks of Simsang river.
The programme was part of the nationwide “Puneet Sagar Campaign” on a mission mode, which commenced from December 1, 2021 to keep the beaches, seashores and riverbanks free from plastic and other waste materials. The aim of the campaign is to increase awareness about the importance of keeping clean beaches and riverbanks.
The students picked up and clean waste materials from the banks of the river, which is also known as Someshwari river in Bangladesh, originates from the Nokrek Peak and flows through the heart of Garo Hills touching Rongrengiri, Williamnagar, Nongalbibra, Rewak, Siju and Baghmara dividing the area of Garo hills into two parts and enters Netrakona district of Bangladesh.
The rally was addressed by Additional District Commissioner, Alloysius Ch Marak, Satish KS, Indian Forest Service and Principal Father Dr Sunny Augustine of Loyola College Williamnagar.
Subedar Ganesh Gurung, Havildar Mohammad Kabi Sheikh, Havildar JR Reddy from 41 Meghalaya Bn NCC along with Lieutenant Antony, Lieutenant Daffling (Associate NCC Officers) at Loyola College, Balkari B Sangma and Sallam Leezer S Momin (Care Taker Officers) Government College Williamnagar organized the disciplined and systematic conduct of the event and debrief the cadets.
