In the run up to the Independence Day celebration Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav cadets of 2 Megh BN NCC, Shillong Group of North Eastern Region Directorate NCC carried out a cleanliness drive at Smit village.
The drive was organised in collaboration with the Commissioner of Food safety.
A total of 60 NCC cadets along with Lt P.P Jena ANO of Assam Rifle Public School, M.R Thankuhiew CTO of Smit Secondary School and three permanent instructors participated by cleaning the market area and collected 80 kgs of garbage.
Commissioner of Food Safety, R.M Kurbah, DBS Mukhim, Asst Commissioner Food Safety and other dignitaries were also present.
Meanwhile, the cadets also took part in a blood donation camp organised in collaboration with the Red Cross Society, Meghalaya and Regional Blood Bank.
Chairman of the Red Cross Society R.O. Wallang graced the occasion. A.N. Sawian Gen Secretary of Indian Red Cross Society briefed the cadets about the blood donation and appreciated the fact that all of them volunteers and doing a very good service to the society.
Dr C Budnah of Regional Blood Bank spoke about the various nuances and aspect of the blood donation.
Brig Jai Singh, Group Commander of Shillong Group emphasized on the role of the NCC in contribution to the society and motivated the cadets to voluntarily come forward to donate blood.
A total of 35 units of blood was donated by the NCC cadets and PI staff of Shillong Group.
