A national seminar on “Integration of Indigenous Knowledge in the School Curriculum: Prospect and Challenges” concluded at NERIE-NCERT, Umiam yesterday.
The aim of the seminar was to give special focus on the importance of indigenous knowledge system and how to incorporate into the school syllabi.
Associate Professor, Dr Tulika Dey informed that the seminar has been conducted and presented both online and offline.
Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, Adviser (Education), Assam lauded the NERIE -NCERT for organising the seminar and said identity and integrity should be given special focus on indigenous knowledge system.
Indigenous system to education has not been given importance in the past because of westernization and modernization. He said the country has more than 260 ethnic group and number of languages which needs to be focussed.
Prof. B. Barthakur, Principal, NERIE and coordinator Prof. Subhas Chandra Roy were also present at the programme.
