Shillong, Nov 12: Over 200 students from various departments at Captain Williamson Sangma State University (CWSSU) marked National Education Day 2025 with a day-long programme, exploring the theme “AI and Education: Preserving Human Agency in a World of Automation”.
The event, organised by the Department of Education, CWSSU, featured insightful speeches, a symposium, and literary competitions.
Rev. Fr. Januarius S. Sangma, Principal of Don Bosco College, Tura, delivered the keynote address, emphasising holistic education and AI’s supportive role in teaching.
Fr. Sangma highlighted global examples of AI integration, citing Finland, Japan, and South Korea, where technology augments teacher capabilities. He stressed the importance of human wisdom guiding AI, ensuring “automation never replaces humanity”.
He advocated for AI-based skill and entrepreneurship programs, quoting UNESCO’s principles on ethical technology use.
Deputy Registrar Singje Ch. Marak emphasised holistic and skill-based learning, aligning with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 goals. He encouraged entrepreneurship and continuous learning, stating, “What you do today shapes what you become tomorrow.”
The symposium, “Reimagining Education in India: Pathways for the Future”, featured distinguished speakers discussing educational reforms, teacher training, and AI integration.
Literary activities included a debate and caption writing contest, showcasing students’ creativity and critical thinking.
