The Narpuh Circle of the Khasi Students Union (KSU) has decided to convene a meeting with all traditional heads of the region to discuss the deplorable condition of National Highway 6.
The KSU said that the deplorable condition of the highway, which also connects
Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, has put passersby in grave danger and having to face great inconveniences because of the extreme traffic congestion.
The general secretary of the local KSU, S Bamon, said that potholes along the entire stretch of the road have become like fish ponds and over every kilometre around four or five vehicles break down.
He ridiculed the state government’s idea of wanting to bring in railways when it cannot maintain existing road infrastructure.
