A children’s park cum playfield constructed under the centrally sponsored Atal Mission For Rejuvenation And Urban Transformation (AMRUT) was inaugurated in Mynsain, Upper Lumparing today.
The park was sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 26.44 lakh. Enhancing amenity value of cities by creating and upgrading green spaces, parks and recreation centers, especially for children is one of the thrust areas under AMRUT.
South Shillong MLA, Sanbor Shullai who inaugurated the park said it was a long aspiration of the people of Mynsain who lack a safe place for young children to play and recreate.
“All these years there are no safe spaces for young children to play and most of the time children are seen playing on motorable roads in the locality which does not look safe,” he said.
He thanked the ministry of forest and environment and the forest department East Khasi Hills who approved the land allotted for the construction of the park to the Lumparing Welfare society.
Shullai urged residents to strictly follow guidelines in the park strictly and to prevent it from turning into a haven of illicit activities.
He also informed that the two similar children’s parks, one at Jhalupara sanctioned at Rs 29.38 lakh and the other at Madan Laban at Rs 55.34 lakh will be inaugurated soon.
Meanwhile Shullai announced a sanction of Rs 4.47 crore for construction of a link road from Nepali School via the titanic building connecting the existing road at Dhobi Ghat PWD road.
He said that the link road will ease the constituents, especially in times of immediate need of health attention.
Earlier headman of Upper Lumparing, HB Wahlang praised the MLA and said Shullai has devoted his time to bring development and offered his service to the constituency, unlike others who does their work just when elections are near.
