The existence of an organisation of sex workers in the State has shocked the Mylliemngap Iewpomtiah clan who today said that a search was conducted by them to ensure if the general secretary of the Rot Association of Meghalaya (RAM) is from the clan.
RAM had recently issued an email statement condemning MLAs who were discussing the issue of sex workers in the Assembly calling their comments humiliating while demanding decriminalisation of their work.
The statement was issued by RAM president I. Kharmuti, General Secretary P. Mylliemngap and Publicity Secretary D Mawlong.
The clan name of the general secretary caught the attention of the Mylliemngap clan who stated, “We have conducted a search and asked people around, if the person bearing the clan name holds such a position. However, till date we have no knowledge if the person exists” president of the clan, Hisstar Mylliemngap said in a press release.
He said the clan will not take the responsibility of the person who has “tarnished” the name of the clan and warned that no person should misuse it.
The president also said, “If such a person exists, she should come and clear doubts before the committee and be counselled.”
