Shillong, Feb 19: Mylliem MLA Ronnie V. Lyngdoh has urged the State Government and the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to speed up the ongoing construction of the Shillong–Dawki road, saying the delay is causing serious inconvenience to the public.
Lyngdoh said the Shillong–Dawki road is an important route for daily commuters as well as for trade and tourism. He noted that the road connects Shillong to the international border town of Dawki and plays a key role in the state’s economic activities.
According to the MLA, residents, business owners, transporters and students have been facing difficulties due to the poor condition of the road, traffic congestion, dust pollution and increased travel time. He said the delay in completing the project has affected people from both urban and rural areas who depend on this route for their daily needs and livelihoods.
Lyngdoh also raised concern over the recent decision by defence authorities not to grant permission for the proposed flyover from Rilbong to Barik. The permission was reportedly denied on security grounds as the route passes through restricted military areas. He said the flyover was expected to reduce traffic congestion in Shillong city and ease the daily movement of commuters, especially during peak hours.
