South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai defended his record as legislator, saying that his actions speak louder than words.
Yesterday, leader of the opposition and Congress Party MLA Ronnie Lyngdoh attacked Shullai, a BJP MLA, for skipping the just concluded Assembly session and not speaking out on important issues for his constituents. Lyngdoh’s criticisms were in response to some barbs from Shullai directed at Shillong MP and Lyngdoh’s party colleague Vincent Pala.
Responding to the allegations, Shullai said that whatever Lyngdoh said about him is untrue.
“In the past there have been many occasions that I’ve raised pertinent issues, such as challenges of the people in the constituency during Covid,” Shullai said.
He added that it was due to his actions that the state government had sanctioned Rs 50 lakh for each constituency during the pandemic. Shullai also said that he had been at the forefront of bringing up matters like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Uniform Civil Code, Inner Line Permit, etc.
“After our intervention the government of India decided to exempt the implementation of CAA in Sixth Schedule areas,” he said.
