Shillong, Nov 22: The All Jaiñtia Muster Roll Workers and Labour Union has given the government a December 10 deadline to implement the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) for muster roll workers and the floor rate.
Hundreds of workers attended a general meeting in Shillong, expressing their frustration over non-implementation of the floor rate, maternity leave, and other issues.
“The government has stopped implementing the revised floor rate which should be revised after every 5 years and the variable dearness allowance which should be revised after every 2 years as per the minimum wages act 1948,” said Khroo L. Pariat, President of the union.
The union has threatened to go on strike if their demands, including implementing the Regular Casual Workers’ Scheme, revising the floor rate, and increasing the retirement age to 65, are not met.
“The retirement age for muster roll should be 65 years,” Pariat added.
He also claimed that officers of the state do not grant maternity leaves and that the EPFO should be extended to muster roll workers as well since they do not enjoy social security benefits.
