‘Mushroom Mentor’, a mobile app to promote cultivation of the fungi and benefit farmers was officially launched on July 10.
The mobile application was designed and developed through the collaboration of CPGS-AS (College of Postgraduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences) and the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Meghalaya.
The app provides detailed information on various types of mushrooms, modern methods and technologies used in mushroom cultivation, nutritional properties, government schemes and support available for mushroom growers. It also covers methods to cook mushrooms, and even helps identify different mushroom species using images and features.
It was designed by CPGS-AS Dean Prof. Dwipendra Thakuria backed by the research of Bhanita Baruah, PhD Scholar, under the guidance of Dr. L. Devrani, Professor, CPGS-AS, Umiam; Dr. P.N.M. Rani, Assistant Professor (Computer Science), CPGS-AS, Umiam and Dr. Bunil Kumar Balabantary, Assistant Professor, NIT, Meghalaya.
The app was launched at an event held at the CPGS-AS and attended by Central Agricultural University (CAU), Imphal Vice Chancellor Dr. Anupam Mishra, NIT Meghalaya Director Prof. P. Mahanta, Prof. Ram Singh, Dean, College of Agriculture, Kyrdemkulai, Dr. B. Balabantary, Assistant Professor, NIT Meghalaya, Kitborlang Kharpran, Assistant Director of Horticulture, Mushroom Development Centre, Upper Shillong; and several others.
