The recovery of the body of a chowkidar of the Public Works Department (PWD) early this morning has led police to suspect murder after the head of the victim was allegedly bashed in.
According to reports, Sapenson G Sangma, who used to sleep in the PWD (Road) Mechanical Division office, was possibly attacked by unidentified miscreants, leading to multiple head injuries and, subsequently, his death.
The body of Sangma was found today morning at 9:15 am after a call was made to the Araimile Beat House from the PWD(R) Mechanical Division. The incident took place at the Nazing Bazaar office of the PWD.
An inquiry into the death revealed that Sangma had multiple injuries to his head and was lying in a pool of blood when his body was discovered.
“An investigation into the incident has been launched as well as an FIR. We have observed all formalities and handed over the body of the victim to their relatives for the last rites,” said Superintendent of Police MGR Kumar.
