Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong today said that former Chief Minister and leader of the Congress party, Dr Mukul Sangma, had tried to woo the National People’s Party into a coalition government with the Congress.
“In recent years he was angry with me, but in the last few months he was trying to woo me, saying, brother, let’s forgive and form a coalition government. I said no thank you Dr Mukul, you have disappointed the people of the state,” Tynsong said while campaigning for the upcoming by-elections.
Tynsong had been with the Congress until 2017 before switching allegiances.
Meanwhile, he also condemned Meghalaya state Congress president Vincent Pala for stating that officials in the Secretariat are orchestrating illegal activities in the state. Tynsong dubbed this as demoralising to the hardworking civil servants of the state.
He also criticised the Congress for blaming the government for the hike in fuel prices.
Compared to Assam, which imposes tax of 32.66 percent per litre of petrol and 23.66 percent for diesel, the Deputy CM said that Meghalaya only applies 20 percent and 12 percent tax respectively.
“Petrol and diesel are the cheapest in Meghalaya,” Tynsong said while slamming the Congress for politicising the issue of increasing prices.
