The Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee observed the 125th Birth Anniversary of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose yesterday at the State Central Library campus, Shillong.
The programme started with singing of Vande Materam followed by with placing the birthday flowers before the statue of Netaji and ended with singing of the National Anthem.
Addressing the gathering the MPCC working president James S. Lyngdoh spoke on the glorious life of Netaji, that he was elected as Congress party president in 1938 and he was the 55th president of the party. He formed a National Planning Committee, which formulated a policy of broad industrialisation.
“During his visit to Shillong he stayed at a bungalow known as Ashley Hall near the Earl Sanatorium. He also visited the Congress office which was located at Umsohsun behind Mahari & Sons. He also addressed various meetings in Shillong,” Lyngdoh said.
Lyngdoh also said that apart from the Satyagraha in the country led by Mahatma, Netaji fought a full battle against the British from exile during Second World War.
“He had freed Andaman & Nicobar Island from British, and conquered upto Manipur border which was the first ‘freedom’ India had got,” the MPCC working president added.
Those who attended the programme included MPCC general secretaries Dr. Manash Das Gupta, K Lyngkhoi and Sanjay Das, MPYC general secretary Fernandez S . Dkhar, MPCC joint secretary Kamol Marbaniang, party functionaries and members.
