Agriculture Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh today said the matter related to setting up of a Central Agriculture University at Kyrdemkulai in Ri-Bhoi district is still alive and has not yet been abandoned by the State government.
“The matter is alive. Myself and the Chief Minister will keep on pursuing the matter (with the Centre),” Lyngdoh said while replying to a query raised by North Shillong legislator Adelbert Nongrum in the Assembly.
Lyngdoh also said that the Ministry of Agriculture has assured that the proposal of the State government on the Central Agriculture University will be examined.
It may be noted that the State government had procured a plot of land in Kyrdemkulai and handed over the same to the Centre for setting up of the Central Agriculture University. Instead, the Centre set up the College of Agriculture at the site.
Mawsynram MLA Himalaya M. Shangpliang asked if the State government is aware that the College of Agriculture at Kyrdemkulai is recruiting employees from outside the State and that local people are being deprived of employment.
To this, Lyngdoh said the matter is being discussed with the chief minister from time to time to pursue this as the college is being manned by the Central Agriculture University, Imphal.
