Police suspect that the gruesome murder of a 55-year-old woman in West Garo Hills on Friday may have been down to personal enmity but the special investigation team (SIT) set up to probe the murder has yet to reach a concrete conclusion.
The crime, the barbarity of which has shocked all of Garo Hills, took place late on Friday evening when at least five armed people descended on the house of Jenolish Marak at Karshengdhap village in Tikrikilla area.
They locked up the deceased’s family members in the home, dragged the woman out of the house and decapitated her.
The FIR registered by the victim’s brother mentions a gun being fired but sources said that there were no gunshot wounds on the body. If a gun had been fired it was probably done in the air or at another target.
Police sources believe that the murder was due to personal enmity because nothing was stolen from the house and only the one victim was targeted.
The SIT questioned villagers and others today to try and determine a motive for the murder but nothing concrete has emerged so far.
The SIT is being led by the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Raksamgre.
“We are putting in our efforts into cracking the case and will leave no stone unturned. We are hopeful of a breakthrough into the murder of the woman. More details, if available, during the investigation would be provided once we complete the investigation,” said Superintendent of Police MGR Kumar.
