Nearly two weeks after police arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in the murder of two taxi drivers in Jaiñtia Hills, a mother of one of the accused today joined a protest march at Tongseng-Narpuh, to demand punishment for her son.
The protest rally was organised by the Tonseng Narpuh dorbar in East Jaiñtia Hills district to demand severe punishment for the culprits involved in the gruesome murder of two tourist taxi drivers.
I Love You Talang, Tell Me Pyrtuh, Ramesh Dkhar and Sampher Ksoo were arrested for the murder of Damehipaia Papeng and Fullmoon Kharsahnoh last month.
Mela Dkhar, mother of Ramesh Dkhar joined the rally because she does not want her son back and scared for her life.
With a placard in her hand that reads, ‘Set phatok shijingim ia ki nongpyniap briew’ in Khasi, (meaning: life imprisonment for the murderers), Dkhar said, “Ramesh should be behind bars because I know if he is granted bail, my life is in danger,” she said, adding, “If the law allows he should be hanged to death or given life imprisonment.”
Waheh Shnong Chewanbiang Rymbai stated that Ramesh was also involved in the murder of a woman, Kranti Sutnga of Tongseng village in March 22, 2020. He said that year the dorbar and his clan had urged authorities to send him behind bars for life but he was released in less than a year.
Rymbai said the recent murder and his involvement along with three others have angered villagers who felt that he should not be allowed entry and he is now a threat to the village and the society.
