In view of the rising number of coronavirus cases, all Central government offices in Greater Shillong will remain closed from May 6 till further orders.
The Meghalaya government has advised the offices that will remain closed to work from home. Health, Armed/Para-Military Forces, Power, Banking, Road, Transport and Highways, Postal and Telecommunication services are exempted for the order.
Any exemptions the head of the office can apply to the Home (Political) Department, Government of Meghalaya with proper justification by email to political.dept-meg@gov.in the order said.
Earlier on Monday, the government has imposed curfew in Greater Shillong, two hours earlier from today. All shops closed down by 7 pm and all offices ended work by 4:30pm.
Meanwhile, during partial shutdown under the containment measures adopted by the State government to prevent further surge of cases, people attending to markets in Jowai flouted protocols prompting the district magistrate to close down four markets there.
The lawmusiang (Pohiaw), CNI Market (law Chor), Presbyterian Market (law Shyiap) and Seinraij Market (law Seinraij), lawmusiang, Jowai were shut down for violation of COVID-19 Protocols like not wearing of face mask and not maintaining of Social Distancing, the district magistrate in an order said.
In Wahshnong and Nongshiliang hamlets in Jongksha village under East Khasi Hills district, a Covid-positive person was found to be mingling and coming into close contact with several people.
In the order the East Khasi Hills District Magistrate has promulgated containment restrictions in the two hamlets until contact tracing, isolation and testing of the high-risk contacts is completed.
In West Garo Hills, the District Magistrate has promulgated Section 144 of the CrPC and enforced containment measures in the areas covered under Selsella, Demdema and Tikrikilla C&RD Blocks.
Schools in South West Khasi Hills and West Khasi Hill district have been asked to shut down in view of the surge in Covid cases in the State.
In their respective orders, the district magistrates of both the district said that this would prevent surge in the number of cases.
In West Khasi Hills, all schools including colleges and vocational institutions will shut down from tomorrow till May 23.
Similarly, in South West Khasi Hills all schools including the higher secondary schools and colleges will remain closed.
