Social worker, columnist and pastor of the Unitarian Church, Helpme Hamkhein Mohrmen has announced his decision to contest the 2023 Assembly elections from Jowai constituency against sitting NPP MLA, Wailadmiki Shylla.
He made known his decision to media persons after the release of his new book titled “Ki Kjat Jingshai Ka Mynnor” at Jowai yesterday.
“My entry into politics is not to earn any benefits but to bring changes in all spheres. Winning the election does not depend on money but on the wisdom of the people of Jowai constituency,” Mohrmen said.
Stating that he had served the Jowai Unitarian Church for 32 years, Mohrmen said that he had first consulted the church before taking a decision to join the electoral fray.
He also said that he had prepared his blueprint for development of Jowai constituency with the involvement of experts from various fields, senior citizens, youth leaders, headmen, church leaders and students. He said that the blueprint would be released soon.
Mohrmen is a leading figure of Society for Urban Rural Empowerment (SURE) bad chairman of North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS).
He completed his PhD from Martin Luther Christian University, Shillong.
